Body Piercing Aftercare Leave your bandage on for six to eight hours. Remove bandage, wash your tattoo with a mild liquid soap and warm water. Wash gently with your hand; do not use a towel or anything abrasive. Remove all dried blood and secretions. Rinse and pat dry with a towel. Apply a small amount of A&D ointment, massage it in and wipe off any excess with your hand. You do not want a film leftover as it will suffocate your tattoo. A tattoo needs air to heal. Repeat the washing and ointment process twice a day for three days. After three days, discontinue the use of A&D ointment. Continue your wash process once a day. Apply a small amount of hand lotion; massage it in until it absorbs, twice a day. We recommend you use a good hand lotion without perfumes or dyes. It’s ok to get your tattoo wet but do not soak it for extended periods. Do not expose your tattoo to chlorine for two weeks. Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight for two weeks. Do not pick or scratch your tattoo. Whatever flakes off during a gently wash is ok. It’s important not to force any flakes off before they are ready. Doing so may cause the loss of color in your tattoo. If clothing sticks to your tattoo at any time, do not pull it off. Get your clothing wet until it falls off. It’s ok to cover your tattoo with loose clothing. Do not wear any tight or restrictive clothing directly over your tattoo. We recommend the use of sun block to maintain the quality of a healed tattoo. Failure to follow instructions can extend healing time or adversely affect the quality of your tattoo.
